I am currently an Instructional Applications Support Specialist for the Office of Instruction and Assessment (OIA) at the University of Arizona. I work closely with faculty across the university to implement technologies into their courses and align their pedagogy with course objectives.
I received my Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching at the University of Arizona, where I also earned a Certificate in Language Program Administration and a M.A. in German Studies. Prior to joining OIA, I was Assistant Director of the Center for Language Studies and Lecturer in Language Studies at Brown University, where I provided professional development for faculty in modern and and less-commonly taught languages and taught courses in German and second language pedagogy. I have also held positions as Assistant Language Program Director and Graduate Associate in Teaching for the Department of German Studies as well as Graduate Associate for the Center for Educational Resources in Culture, Language, and Literacy (CERCLL), a Title VI Language Resource Center.
My research investigates multiliteracies-oriented curriculum design for the implementation of authentic cultural media and texts in the foreign language classroom, the integration of collaborative technologies with language learning and teaching, and the professional development of graduate student instructors for foreign language departments.
I teach a wide range of courses related to faculty development and language learning and teaching, including introductions to online teaching and course design, beginning, intermediate, and intensive intermediate German in domestic, study-abroad, face-to-face, and online settings, as well as introductory graduate-level coursework on second / foreign language pedagogy and program administration. In all of these teaching contexts, I prioritize experiential learning, and providing hands-on opportunities for students to experience, analyze, transform, and reflect on content and the ways in which it contributes to their learning, teaching, and research.
